MEET THE LGA STUDIOS TEAM

BERNIE KERN is a seasoned Certified Professional Building Designer with a passion for creating thoughtful, innovative spaces. With a career spanning over three decades, Bernie has been shaping the built environment since 1991, working alongside Larry Gilland and Associates before collaborating with LGA Studios through his business, BBKern DESIGNS LLC, in July 2024.  

Bernie thrives on the creative process, particularly meeting with clients and guiding them through the journey of design, from the initial concepts to the fully realized project. His extensive experience in residential custom design, commercial design, and consulting enables Bernie to bring a well-rounded and insightful approach to every project.  

A true advocate for timeless and functional design, Bernie holds multiple professional certifications, including FAIBD (College of Fellows with the American Institute of Building Design), CPBD (Certified Professional Building Designer), CAPS (Certified Aging in Place Specialist), and BIM-R (Building Information Modeling-Residential). His dedication to building design extends beyond his own practice, with active involvement in the American Institute of Building Design and the Home Builders Association of Colorado Springs.  Bernie was awarded the 2018 Designer of the Year in downtown Philadelphia at the Historic Courtyard by Marriott.

In addition to building design, Bernie is a passionate collector of pop art and comic book art from the 1960s, an avid reader, and a lifelong learner. He enjoys spending time with his wife and their two golden retrievers, as well as deepening his knowledge through Bible research.  

When asked what he loves most about his profession, Bernie shared:  
"I find joy in creating homes that embrace families with warmth and comfort, designing spaces where coming home embraces love."  

Bernie’s educational background includes studies at Arizona State University, the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, the University of Southern Colorado, Pikes Peak Community College, and Glendale Technical Institute of Architecture.  

With an unwavering dedication to excellence and a passion for meaningful design, Bernie continues to shape spaces that enhance the lives of those who inhabit them.
